By Alan Forrest SmithHere's a very simple question; If I bought enough food for myself for 5 days but 5 people came to my home to eat, how long would the food last? Obvious right? It would vanish into every ones bellies in a day of course. So in other words; I would instantly shorten my weeks rations to one single day.Did you know mankind currently uses FIVE PLANET EARTHS as resources? So if planet earth was designed to last lets just say 5 years, with the speed we use everything the Earth will only last a year. Interesting don't you think? Why is this? We are a global community built on assumptions. We are told to buy better, buy newer, want more, want it now, collect more, demand more. TV on demand, movies on demand, contact on demand, high-speed internet, super-duper-mega broadband, new cellphones, even newer cellphones. Throw away furniture, throw away cameras, throw away EARTH!Think about this and if you are the selfish "my life is fine, leave me alone non thinking being" you won't like what I am saying but the reality is this. The stuff to make more stuff has to come from somewhere. For example plastics, your cellphone is made from come from Oil. Oil comes from the ground and is a natural resource. In the Amazon jungle alone where I went last year hundred upon hundred of displaced amazonian Indians have been murdered by the modern day "conquistadors" in their unquenchable thirst for oil and more cash. Murder to strong a word? No it's a fact, I have been there myself! Why do they want more oil? To feed demand, yours and my demands for more. However now only to they feed demand but they have us in a trance-like state where we are continually fed messages like... "new is better"... "time to change" ..."now even faster" But if we change and buy new... where does the old go? Dumped back into a planet we are raping and consuming at 5 times more than it can handle. Is the problem the big Corps then? Not really the problem is you, me, us.You see blaming is easy. Blaming ourselves is hard. Who do you blame? The global community is in a trance. Thankfully there are those that are awakening from the trance and taking action. Thankfully the current directors of this huge play known as "daily life" are having their day as they watch their built-n-sand empire collapse around them right now. These times are dramatic. They are also exciting. It's time to wake. It's your time to shake off the trance. What you're not in a trance? Look around you right now. Stuff, things, new and newer... ask again "Am I in a trance set by others?" I hope this article has touched a part of you in anger, irritation or love. If it has... you are alive, be thankful!I'd love your comment on this post. I get stacks and stacks of traffic at my blog.
